What’s next

All signs point to there being a renewed Boden vs. Grissom showdown in the rest of Chicago Fire season 7, and that’s what audiences have been waiting for. Nobody has been able to stand up to Eamonn Walker quite like Gary Cole, so this is where the real drama is going to be.

Not only that, but Grissom’s unintended absence has been felt in the first nine episodes. Whether it was him not being at Benny Severide’s funeral, or him suspiciously leaving by the back door as Boden went to his office, it was obvious that the show was having to write around him. So having him back will take care of that issue and get Boden’s storyline back on track.

But ultimately, where will it all end up? It doesn’t seem like either man is going anywhere, so will this battle of wills end with the two of them making peace or at least agreeing to disagree? It’d be hard for Boden to get Grissom fired—audiences heard what happened when they presented that evidence against him—and Boden can’t be fired because then Eamonn Walker would be off the show.

So while we know what has to happen next, it’s near impossible to predict where that storyline will end. It’d be great to see them learn to get along, instead of just another story where Boden has to battle a bureaucrat who never learns anything. But perhaps the writers will pull out another surprise and Boden will get the last laugh? Fans will have to watch and see.
