Chicago PD season 6 midseason report: Kim Burgess
What’s next
Every Chicago PD fan will be waiting for the moment when Kim Burgess finds out that her former love interest has a new girlfriend. That’s going to be a tense moment, especially since the woman he’s moved on with is someone that they both work with! But that awkwardness is actually not all that is important for Burgess in the back 13 episodes.
Without Ruzek to worry about, she needs another storyline. And there are other people that Burgess could seriously help. It’s obvious that Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) needs someone to lean on; what about Burgess, who’s been this show’s morale officer for years? One Chicago fans haven’t seen a lot of Burgess and Antonio scenes, so that would be an added bonus.
Or fans have been campaigning to see more of Burgess with her former partner Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), and there’s no reason that can’t happen. Atwater doesn’t have much going on for him right now, either. Burgess could be his shoulder to lean on, or they could even partner up again, because they haven’t worked a case together in a while.
Burgess is scrappy, smart and determined. There’s no reason she can’t be a strong force within the team, and it’d be fantastic to have the character branch out and play a part in some of these other storylines that are happening. If Chicago PD is going to take away her one recurring story, then it needs to find her another path to follow and it doesn’t have to be about who she’s dating (or not dating).
