What it means

Chexton fans are rooting for the duo to reconcile when Chicago Med returns in January, and it’s quite clear that April isn’t over Choi with how she’s been treating him and how she’s just happened to be nearby every time his ex-girlfriend Vicki Glass (recurring guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson) pops up.

But did this relationship really need a love triangle? No. Audiences have seen in the second season that there’s no way this ends well (remember Will, Nina, Natalie and Jeff?). April, for her part of the story, has just been looking jealous. Her actions in “The Poison Inside Us”, while saving Choi’s life, also had her arguing for letting someone else die—slightly understandable but that could also be considered unprofessional from a nurse!

The Chicago Med midseason finale was an example of better writing for April. It gave her a serious storyline that brought out her strength and compassion for others. It’d be great to see her have a few more stories like that, especially if she’ll be serving as charge nurse more often.

Speaking of that, it was great to see April move up the ladder after three and a half seasons as a rank and file nurse, but there’s more to explore there. One episode doesn’t cover all the things she would have to learn and adjust to about running the whole ED! Let’s hope the show goes back there.

And what about April’s relationship with her brother Noah? After the show decided to make him the newest resident in season two—at the cost of writing out stronger characters—he’s only been seen in one episode this season, and his scene wasn’t with April. Where is that story going?
