The case of the week, part two

Atwater had a bullet pulled out of his shoulder, but Chicago PD revealed that he’d be just fine. And slugs from the drive-by shooting matched the murder weapon that killed Bernie Hoffman. It was now all about finding Andre—but when Intelligence arrived at his stash house they found a huge supply of Kelton’s campaign sign and $40,000 in cash.

It was obvious that Kelton was in collusion with a gangster, while publicly talking about how he was going to “crush” gangs and protect Chicago. Voight actually looked disappointed by this but c’mon now. Brian Kelton wasn’t the first corrupt politician and he won’t be the last, especially on Chicago PD where everyone seems to have a skeleton in their closet.

Intelligence just had to connect the dots and do so perfectly if they were going to accuse the top candidate. The pieces began to fit together: Kelton had recruited Hoffman to help him become the next Mayor. That’s why Hoffman freaked out when DeVante saw him, because he saw that they were recording his meeting with Kelton, which would prove the whole scheme. Hey, where was that tape?

While Atwater learned that DeVante had died from his injuries, Kelton conveniently strode right into Intelligence looking for an update on his own case! Everyone stood around awkwardly as he looked at the evidence they had, unable to say anything about it without alerting him to the fact that they were on to him. Even when Kelton asked him directly, Voight refused to give details.

But Atwater had remembered almost all the license plate numbers of the car that shot him, and it had been spotted near the home of Andre’s girlfriend. A classic Chicago PD interrogation followed and the girlfriend confessed Andre drove her car the day of the murder. Not only that, but she also remembered a meeting with a woman whom she positively identified as Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan (recurring guest star Anne Heche)!

With the murder weapon in hand, Intelligence located and arrested Andre, while Brennan strode into Voight’s office and ordered his release. She even dropped Olinsky’s name. The two were soon arguing about loyalty and looking the other way, before Voight kicked her out.

They weren’t apart for long, though, because Voight decided to publicly go after both Brennan and Kelton at another campaign stop. However, Halstead was there waiting for him and convinced him that they’d take the duo down their own way.
