Chicago Med crashed a helicopter this week, but that wasn’t all the fireworks. Find out what happened in our Chicago Med season 4, episode 12 recap.

This week’s Chicago Med episode went big with its cases of the week, bringing down a medical helicopter and having another crisis at the hospital. But what was the real effect of these perilous situations?

Wednesday’s episode “The Things We Do” had Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) caught in a helicopter crash, which sent her fiance to the rescue. Naturally, another life-threatening situation had Manstead on high alert.

Meanwhile, everyone else’s emotions were also running high in a variety of tense exchanges, so it was kind of fitting that dramatic medical student Elsa Currie (recurring guest star Molly Bernard) was back, too. But when Elsa had another problem, would anyone be able to get through to her this time?

Will and Natalie

Audiences saw the start of Natalie’s story in every Chicago Med promo this week: she was on a medical helicopter that lost power and crash-landed. Using the crash as a cliffhanger made for the shortest teaser in show history, as the episode started and then went to commercial literally a minute later.

Natalie was alive but dislocated her shoulder; the bigger problem was her young patient. Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) naturally volunteered to head to the crash site and assist, where he was met by members of Chicago Fire‘s Firehouse 51 and had to pop Natalie’s shoulder back in! But at least they were talking.

As the duo rode back to the hospital, Natalie apologized to Will for the current state of their relationship and said she couldn’t imagine what he was going through. That led to what she had been asking for: Will opened up and told her what he’d been thinking when he was abducted by the Price brothers.

After they tended to their patient, Natalie asked Will to move back in with her—but there was still the catch of him needing to get rid of the gun that he’d come back to Chicago with. This time, Will agreed; he said he’d take the handgun to a police station and gave her a hug. It seemed like they were on the road to recovery—except that when Will went to the station, he changed his mind for the second time and put the gun back in his car. Uh-oh.
