Connor and Ava

Apparently some time had passed since last week’s Chicago Med episode, as Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) had been distant “for weeks,” according to Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling). Connor insisted he was fine in that way where he was obviously not fine.

The duo teamed up to treat Barbara, who was experiencing heart failure but also had Downs Syndrome and she was pregnant! She didn’t want the surgery to save her because it would likely kill her baby, but Barbara’s mom had another opinion—and her daughter’s power of attorney. That was all Ava needed to hear while Connor wanted to respect his patient’s wishes.

They took their disagreement to Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), who sided with Ava and authorized the surgery. But in the OR, Connor called an audible and cranked up the bypass in one last effort to save the baby. It worked!

Personally, Connor told Ava that his father Cornelius (D.W. Moffett) had claimed Ava “seduced” him to get the money for the hybrid OR. Connor thought his dad “seemed like he was telling the truth,” hence why he’d been distant from Ava. But wait, why was he trusting a man who had a history of being a jerk over the woman he allegedly loved?

Because, as he pointed out, Ava was developing a history of lying. She tried to appeal to him on an emotional level, saying that his father never cared about him (she wasn’t wrong). But Connor said that his father mentioned a specific detail about Ava’s perfume, and left still not believing her. And this crazy storyline will continue for at least one more week.
