Chicago PD dove into Jay Halstead’s past and the political future this week. Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 6, episode 12 recap.

This week’s Chicago PD continued down its bumpy path, with Intelligence now officially at odds with the department’s highest authorities. So what would be their first move in the long game?

Wednesday’s episode “Outrage” saw Intelligence selecting a case that their bosses didn’t want them to solve, while Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) began to shake some proverbial trees as a way of going after his now-former allies.

Plus, what did Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) have to do with the case? And how small of a city is it that so many cases on this show have some kind of personal connection to one of the officers in this unit?

Old friends

A would-be drug bust went sideways when the team identified the suspect as Matthew Garrett, a perp who Halstead thought was in prison. Jay tried to bail before any trouble started, but Garrett had also recognize him and publicly called him out, leading to a brief confrontation. As he left the club, Jay described the guy as “the devil.”

The next day, Chicago PD had the rest of the squad give the audience the details: a paperwork snafu led to Garrett getting a huge payoff for wrongful arrest, and now he was using it to fund his drug operation. Halstead particularly hated him because Garrett killed a 17-year-old girl. Hearing that made Voight decide he was worth going after, damn the consequences.

Voight looked up yet another friend—a former Narcotics cop named Gus, who had been kicked off the force after some damning video. Gus directed him to someone who knew somebody, so Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) went undercover again to set up another bust. But that required the money to buy drugs, which the team had to get from—you guessed it—the department. And you know who’s in charge of the department?
