Things are about to get very, very cold on Chicago Fire, according to NBC‘s official description of Wednesday’s episode and the promo that they’ve released for it.

Fans are used to things being incredibly hot on this show, but Wednesday’s installment is called “The Plunge” because it refers to the infamous Polar Plunge. While members of Firehouse 51 get chilly for fun, they’ve also got work to do. This week it’s Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) who is on the hot seat—hopefully it won’t be as terrible as what he was put through at the end of last season, when he lost a colleague and a friend.

It’s good, though, that Chicago Fire is serving up a Herrmann episode because those are always a worthwhile watch and there hasn’t really been one so far this season. The team’s extracurricular activities will certainly be worth a few laughs, as well, so it seems like this episode is getting back to self-contained stories after a few ongoing and very serious subplots. Hopefully no one will get left out in the cold.

"Cruz leads the charge in getting the firehouse to gear up for the Polar Plunge. Herrmann has a hard time bouncing back after dealing with a tough call. Foster’s personal relationships begin to interfere with her job."
