Chicago PD pushed Kevin Atwater to the edge again, while Hank Voight got some help. Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 6, episode 13 recap!

This week’s Chicago PD episode gave one of the show’s most underused characters another chance to shine, but it also ran him through the wringer in an emotionally charged episode.

Wednesday’s installment “Night in Chicago” saw Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) once again working undercover to bring down a dangerous criminal and his entire enterprise. While he was under with the drug dealers, Atwater ended up in the crosshairs of some overzealous cops and someone paid the ultimate price.

Meanwhile, the case had political connections, as the tip that started the whole thing off came from a certain drug-connected Alderman. And a certain corrupt Superintendent was on the hunt, for mayoral endorsements and possibly something else.

Crime and basketball

“Night in Chicago” opened in the middle of Atwater’s undercover operation, where he was playing pool with suspects with a surveillance van outside. Atwater was there to take down Phil Gamble, by getting in with his crazed right-hand man Daryl Ingram. If Daryl would just stop pointing guns at people for his own amusement.

Chicago PD revealed that the operation started with a tip from Alderman Ray Price (returning guest star Wendell Pierce), who wanted Phil and Daryl out of his ward. Price passed more info to Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) to help Atwater, talking about taking matters into their own hands before the two toasted one another.

That included that Daryl had one weakness: his 15-year-old brother Vance, whom Atwater cozied up to by pretending to recruit him for a basketball team. Daryl’s rage was tempered by a meeting with the coach Atwater claimed to work for, which was really just Atwater calling in a favor. That got Kevin “in” but he needed a way forward—so the action shifted back to Voight.

He went looking for Price, who was being wined and dined by Brian Kelton (guest star John C. McGinley), as Kelton was looking for his endorsement in the race for Mayor. Price was not going to have any of that, so Kelton left disappointed before Voight got the name of Daryl’s drug supplier and the address to his stash house.

Intelligence promptly raided it, and everyone learned that Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) speaks spanish, which was an awkward beat to end the first act of “Night in Chicago” on.
