Let’s make a deal

Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) got a visit from a consultant named Blair (guest star Charles Michael Davis, The Originals) working for Superintendent Kelton (John C. McGinley). He wanted Platt to stand with Kelton at a press conference promoting a new “female forward” initiative, but Platt was not interested. This is the woman who hated being on TV last season when she was almost blown up. She told the man that Kelton could ask him herself.

But Blair recognized Burgess as they passed in the lobby. Apparently he was sweet on Burgess, inviting her to the ballet with him. A pleasantly flustered Burgess had to run, and ended up running into Upton and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) as they were sharing an intimate moment. Yep, the cat was out of the bag.

Burgess did a great job at the “I didn’t see anything” routine, while Upton looked positively perturbed that Kim had found out like that. And Ruzek almost left the room without the money he was supposed to take, so everybody was off to a great start this episode!

They were hot on the trail of a gun dealer named Davis, posing as marijuana dealers looking for extra protection. But one slip of the tongue from a nervous informant raised Davis’s suspicions, and he noticed Burgess was wearing a bulletproof vest. So Burgess and Ruzek had to make a choice, and they moved in immediately, prompting a huge shootout that ended when Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) killing Davis. What were they supposed to do with their case now?

Intelligence decided to head across state lines to trace the weapons at a gun show. In the locker room, Upton tried to talk to her about Ruzek, but Burgess didn’t want to hear it. Cut to said gun show, where it was easy to spot the two dudes who looked exceptionally squirrely and suspicious. They were definitely trouble—a lot of it.
