A history of violence

Burgess approached them and brokered a deal, with Upton following behind. But then Chicago PD had a moment any TV viewer could see coming: the dudes led Burgess to their truck, then immediately noticed Upton. Upton tried to play it off as trying to look out for her friend, but both of them were shoved into the truck at gunpoint.

The two were driven to a remote location, where the two guys demanded the 20 grand Burgess claimed she had (while being utterly stupid; as she pointed out, she’d never said she had the money physically on her). They were then left tied to pipes in the basement of a cabin, where it was clear the perpetrators had the usual “one of us is crazy” dynamic going on.

Upton wanted to wait for the rest of Intelligence, who met up in Wisconsin with an address for the cabin, thanks to Platt. Ruzek was chomping at the bit to take the lead, but Voight told him that Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) was in charge. But surprise: that wasn’t the right cabin. It had the guns, but not the hostages.

Time for another classic Chicago PD moment as Voight made use of a hammer to get the name of the crazy guy holding Burgess and Upton hostage: Red. Voight quickly deduced that he wasn’t a gun dealer, just a scam artist. And the scam artist forced Burgess to make a call, which she happened to place to Ruzek.

Burgess dropped Ruzek a hint by mentioning her gym, Easton Fitness, which shared its name with the factory that Red’s family had worked for. That helped Platt identify Red as Logan Gaines. Meanwhile, Upton tried to escape and got into a knock-down, drag-out fight with Gaines’ friend that she lost.
