This week’s Chicago Med might not have been part of the One Chicago crossover, but it had some surprises of its own.

Wednesday’s episode “We Hold These Truths” put Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) on the spot, when a fair they were attending turned into a medical emergency.

But back at the hospital, Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) got a blast from the past that also had repercussions for Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell). That was almost more interesting than the case of the week!

Natalie and Maggie

Natalie visited a street fair with Maggie, who was up and about after donating a kidney. Maggie did have some harsh words for Natalie about giving Phillip (Ian Harding) her personal cell phone number, though.

But all those thoughts were pushed aside when the duo watched a truck plow its way through the fair, causing utter chaos. Members of Chicago Fire‘s Firehouse 51 were quickly on scene to try and sort out the damage, while Maggie and Natalie commandeered a restaurant to get victims in from the cold.

Things took a sharp turn for the worse when Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) discovered that there were explosives on site! That left the duo on their own, unable to get more patients to the hospital and with limited supplies from the ambulances that had to be pulled away from the scene.

By the halfway point, Chicago Med had them improvising procedures with duct tape, plastic wrap and a turkey baster. Give them points for ingenuity! Then Maggie realized she was bleeding, but from problems with her recovery after donating her kidney. She had no idea and collapsed soon afterward, leaving Natalie and Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) to take care of her.

Their storyline ended with Maggie recovering, while Phillip was still texting. Maggie urged her friend to go up and see him, while Natalie dxeclared she didn’t care about crossing boundaries. Love triangle incoming?
