Choi, April and Vicki

April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) had finally forgiven Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) for accusing her of killing a patient three episodes ago, and invited him out—only to find out he was meeting his girlfriend’s parents!

But Chicago Med had the duo working together again, this time treating a young boy who was diagnosed with leukemia, and had also developed meningitis. Between the two things, there was little hope for Thomas.

Which is where it got uncomfortable: Thomas’s parents told Choi that they conceived their second son specifically so that he could donate to his brother. Gavin, however, had a panic attack when he realized what was going to happen. Choi told his parents that he needed Gavin’s consent, but after his parents gave him a guilt trip, Gavin changed his mind.

Goodwin didn’t agree with April and Choi’s assertion that Gavin was pressured into the decision; it really wasn’t her best episode. But when test results revealed that Thomas had stopped taking his medication, having become overwhelmed by everything including his brother’s suffering, his mom and dad found out he didn’t want the transplant.

At the end of the day, April gave Choi advice for his date. But when he went to meet Vicki (guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Choi suddenly had a change of heart. He told his girlfriend that he wasn’t being fair to her, which she quickly deduced had to do with his unresolved feelings about April. And with that, Chicago Med terminated their relationship for the second time. Sorry, Vicki; you really do deserve better.
