Kelton’s cover up

The next suspect was Lexie’s neighbor Tony Hill, a burglar who’d somehow gotten a hold of her ATM card. Tony claimed he’d heard a scream and seen a blue van, so he went inside the apartment to see what was up…and just happened to steal some of Lexie’s belongings, too. He clearly wasn’t intimidating enough to be the killer.

After blood tests revealed that yes, there were other cases perpetrated by the same person, Chicago PD officially began hunting for a serial killer. So why didn’t Robbery Homicide figure that out? Good question, especially for Upton, who had been in Homicide before coming to Intelligence. And especially because the area commander at the time was Brian Kelton. Yes, that’s mayoral candidate Brian Kelton.

Kelton (guest star John C. McGinley) conveniently showed up in the next scene to see what was going on – and suggest that Homicide would be better on the case. Uh, no. But at least he wasn’t actively unhelpful.

Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) uncovered threats that Lexie’s boss had made to her. After Voight nearly strangled him, he admitted to being at the crime scene but also said he saw the blue van, lending further credence to the serial killer theory.

Voight finally tracked down the Homicide detective who’d originally worked the case, who told him that Kelton had shut down the investigation because he wanted to keep his stats looking good. He also admitted to tipping off Kelton about the new case, burying vital information in the process.

While Voight got nothing when he confronted Kelton, Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) was able to trace the tags on the van, which led Intelligence to an abandoned theater. This might be the creepiest place Chicago PD has ever filmed. It got creepier when they found a wall of victims’ photos. That was definitely nightmare fuel.
