Voight gets revenge

Antonio noticed a body, which wasn’t Lexie but a poor guy who had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. And when reinforcements were called in, more skeletons were found in the floor. Just as the cringe hit maximum levels, the blue van was located by some patrol officers – with blood and Lexie’s necklace inside. Voight revealed that he had given it to her after she saved his life.

Intelligence’s next move was to check mass transit cameras in the area, which enabled them to get their first image of the killer. It also allowed them to identify him by finding the credit card he’d used to pay for his transit pass. So the final 15 minutes were set up for a Chicago PD showdown.

The team followed their perpetrator to another abandoned building, but just as they were preparing to arrest him, Homicide rolled up “following orders,” presumably from Kelton. Unsurprisingly, they made it worse, because the Homicide cop shot the perp before Voight could find out where he was keeping Lexie.

After a well-deserved chewing out, Voight’s last lead was to see if tracking the bad guy’s own car would help find his friend. That brought Intelligence to a house that they promptly stormed into, opening a locked panel in the floor to locate Lexie: bound, gagged and dead. Voight started CPR, but the rest of the team clearly knew it was too late, and Upton awkwardly tried to comfort her boss.

The only solace Voight had at the end of “The Forgotten” was that it gave him an even bigger axe to grind against Brian Kelton. He knew shooting the serial killer also conveniently covered Kelton’s behind, and punched the Homicide cop before warning that he’d be coming for Kelton next. Even if it meant aligning himself with Ray Price.

So Voight met with Price again and this time, told him everything about the serial killer and Kelton’s involvement in the case. He even handed over a copy of an incriminating email that proved Kelton had shut down the original case. Oh, it is definitely on now.
