Law and Order SVU season 20, episode 17 synopsis and promo: Missing

The Special Victims Unit tries to protect a child this week, according to NBC‘s official description of the next SVU episode and the promo they’ve released for it.

Thursday’s episode is called “Missing,” which is another on the nose title for the Dick Wolf show. It gives a great idea of what the episode is about: a young girl disappears and is found left behind in the trunk of an abandoned car. How did she get there, and why was she left there? And of course, the most important question is who put her there?

It’s up to Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her detectives to chase down the perpetrator, who is also now missing. Cases involving children are always sensitive on any TV show, and particularly on this one where several of the main characters are parents, tensions will be running high here.

Expect this to be an emotional case for the Special Victims Unit, and there will probably be a plot twist or two at the end; there usually are. Particularly since it’s following an episode where Brian Cassidy (Dean Winters) dealt with a painful secret from his youth, the show is certainly not taking it easy on the audience.
