Chicago Med’s Choi and April: Should they stay or split?
Why they should stay together
Choi and April both clearly have unresolved feelings for each other. She kissed him and he just quit dating Vicki for a second time because of her. Those are some drastic actions, so those must also be some strong feelings.
From an off-screen standpoint, Chexton is the healthiest relationship that Chicago Med has at the moment. The romance between Dr. Connor Rhodes and Dr. Ava Bekker (Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling) is radioactive with how it’s prompted Connor—and viewers—to question Ava’s sanity. As for Manstead, they’re always fighting.
At least when Choi and April fought, Choi still campaigned for them not to be separated because he respected April’s skills as a nurse. And even when he thought she could’ve killed somebody, he was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. There’s still a genuine respect there; it’s just been muddled.
Plus, where are these two going to go if not with each other? April broke off an engagement last season, and Choi just dumped his girlfriend. Neither have outside prospects, and since the show writes them together so frequently, it doesn’t seem like they’d have time to meet anybody else, either.
Chicago Med needs at least one relationship to be stable, and Chexton is the show’s best bet for that; it also gives the series a different dynamic because April is a nurse, as opposed to the other two ships that are between doctors. Of the three, there’s the most argument for keeping this one since they have themselves in the best order.
