Chicago Fire’s Brett and Kyle: Should they stay or split?
Why they should stay together
Speaking of Brett’s heartbreak, is there a Chicago Fire fan that doesn’t just want her to be happy? The unfortunate side effect of the One Chicago writers trying to make the romance between her and Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) work despite its off-screen challenges was that it created all this drama on-screen.
They broke up, but then they hooked up again, then she dumped him because she wasn’t wanting it to be that serious, and let’s also not forget the brief pregnancy scare before she found out Antonio was going on a blind date with someone else (not the detective he impulsively had sex with when he hardly knew her). The plot was so uneven that it put both of them, particularly Brett, through more than they deserved.
Brett’s heart has been through the wringer; if she’s going to be in a ship, it should be one that’s nice and uncomplicated. In fact, Chicago Fire viewers could probably also appreciate a romance that’s not complicated, since the others on the show have been so dramatic. There should be all kinds of different relationships, not just different pairs going through the same challenges.
Kyle is perfect for that; he’s charming and sweet, just like her. And audiences hardly know the character; there’s so much more about him to explore. These two could be really great together, but the only way to know is to give them a chance and allow them to develop. Breaking them up now is kind of jumping to a conclusion.
