New York has another crime spree on its hands, according to CBS‘ official description and teaser for this week’s FBI episode.

Tuesday’s installment is called “Apex” and centers on a serial killer. This comes in a season where the team has already battled a duo committing a string of armed robberies, and had to investigate an entire group of poisonings. What’s going to make this case different from those previous ones?

Maybe it’s the bureaucracy. It’s not uncommon for someone to foul up a TV crime drama, but this week it’s the mayor who gets in the way! That’s some pretty high-level interference, so hopefully Dana Mosier (Sela Ward) has some tricks up her sleeve. We don’t want this to be another one of those procedural stories where someone dies because somebody else impedes finding the serial murderer.

The episode will also appeal to fans of the other Dick Wolf franchises, because Sandrine Holt is the featured guest star. The actress previously recurred as psychologist Lisa Abernathy earlier in this season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. It’s not clear how big her role here is, but she’s always a good addition to any show. CBS viewers will also recognize her as the original boss on the MacGyver reboot in the first season.

"Maggie and Dana struggle to find justice for victims murdered by a serial killer who left a ghoulish mark on all of his victims, while the mayor limits the investigation in order to prevent economical loss."
