Chicago PD season 6, episode 17 recap: Pain Killer
Did Chicago PD kill off one of its mayoral candidates in Pain Killer? Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 6, episode 17 recap.
This week’s Chicago PD episode threw a wrench into its election storyline—or rather, a bullet, as it shot one of the season’s major recurring characters.
Wednesday’s installment “Pain Killer” gave One Chicago fans another sniper, but this time there wasn’t a plan just to shoot cops. The episode opened with Alderman Ray Price (recurring guest star Wendell Pierce) taking a bullet as he was leaving a public appearance, leading Intelligence to think he was targeted.
Audiences also met Price’s wife and daughter, obviously under not so great circumstances, and had to deal with the unfortunate return of Superintendent Brian Kelton (returning guest star John C. McGinley). He proceeded to not help this situation at all. Not that he ever would.

Ray Price is shot
“Pain Killer” started off on a decidedly not dramatic note. For the second episode in a row, Chicago PD fans started off getting an update on Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and her new boyfriend Blair (guest star Charles Michael Davis). Burgess asked Blair why he was working for Kelton; he explained easily that he was getting paid, before heading back to work.
Kelton’s opponent Ray Price was making a public appearance at a Future Chicago event, being introduced by his daughter Jasmine (guest star Alexis Louder). Burgess, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) were in attendance, which meant they were present when Price was shot by a sniper…ironically after making a reference to a bullet and Kelton “bleeding out.” As Sterling Archer might say, phrasing.
While Price was treated at Chicago Med, the Intelligence Unit questioned his wife Alicia (guest star Nicki Micheaux), who pointed the finger for the shooting at a very quickly appearing Kelton. Was Kelton sincere in his respect for Price? And why was he using the past tense when his opponent was still alive?
But Price was quickly revealed to be stable, so Chicago PD shifted to who hit him and why. Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) found one report from a week earlier, where Price had some kind of “violent argument” with another man. Jasmine was asked about it, and said the man had threatened to kill Price before.
