Chicago Fire had tensions high at Firehouse 51 in No Such Thing As Bad Luck. Find out what happened in our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 18 recap.

The latest Chicago Fire saw things still a little frayed around Firehouse 51, but the team pulled together when it counted, as they always do.

In Wednesday’s installment, “No Such Thing As Bad Luck,” Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) had a difference of opinion in the field. That shook Cruz’s confident quite a bit, but he also got some very good news that included Chicago PD.

Meanwhile, Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) finally got a storyline of his own when there was someone from his past involved in a fire call. One Chicago fans can always count on Boden to deliver.

Boden

As this episode opened, Boden was having a rough day thanks to his kid’s “weapons-grade temper tantrums” and the resulting strain on his marriage. But it got even more complicated when the woman trapped inside a house fire was someone he knew from high school!

After Severide got her out from her bathroom safely, Boden recognized Jasmine immediately. She said he “broke my heart,” so it was odd timing for Chicago Fire to introduce an ex at the same time that he was having problems with Donna. But this wasn’t a love triangle—it was a lot worse than that.

At the same time, Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) expressed to Severide that it looked as if Jasmine’s house had been ransacked before the fire. After Severide agreed with him, Casey took his suspicions to Boden, alleging that Jasmine hadn’t locked herself in the bathroom – someone had put her there.

Boden wasn’t sure he believed that, but agreed that he’d want to help since Jasmine had “saved me from a lot of grief” when they were together. He asked her about it; she continued to insist that nothing was wrong, while not sounding thrilled to learn that Boden was married. She did offer to take him to dinner, though.

Donna (guest star Melissa Ponzio) was waiting for Boden when he got home, to tell him about their son’s latest behavior issue. When she heard Jasmine’s story, though, Donna was also skeptical and encouraged her husband to check in on the other woman again. Whenever Donna turns up on Chicago Fire she always gives good advice.

But a nervous Jasmine closed the door in Boden’s face, which pretty much made it clear there was something wrong. She then called him later and Boden found her in the middle of a fight with her abusive teenage son, who pulled a gun on him! Boden was able to disarm him and give him a stern talking-to, while getting Jasmine to agree to let him take her son to rehab.

As he should, since according to Casey, it was the son who’d started the fire and trashed the house in the first place. That gave Boden new perspective as he came home to his own family, who were thrilled to see him.
