Law and Order SVU ratings report: Week of April 4, 2019
How did this week’s Law and Order SVU season 20 episode do in the TV ratings? Here’s the April 4 edition of the SVU Ratings Report.
With the 20th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season continuing, it’s time for another look at the Dick Wolf series’ TV ratings with the SVU Ratings Report.
After taking a week off, the show returned with the episode “Dearly Beloved,” which attracted a total of 3.89 million viewers watching live. That’s a significant decrease from the last new episode on March 21, which had 4.27 million (-0.38, or 380,000).
The series ranked eighth amongst 17 programs aired on broadcast TV this Thursday evening. That was a massive drop, as previously it had climbed all the way to third. So it went from being one of the top shows, to just about the halfway point of the general rankings.
Among the particularly coveted adults 18-49 category, SVU had a 0.8 share. That put it into yet another tie for sixth place with the CBS sitcom Fam.

Special Victims Unit did not win its time slot this week. That also went to CBS, which collected 4.74 million live viewers with a new episode of SWAT. That translated into a +0.85 advantage, or an extra 850,000 people.
While the series still has a clear lead on ABC‘s sophomore legal drama For The People, which had 3.08 million, it’s still not quite hitting the marks that fans would like to see it get to. When there are other Dick Wolf programs reaching 7-9 million viewers, to see this one not even reach 4 is a little sobering.
But with NBC having already ordered SVU season 21, audiences can at least take heart in knowing that the show won’t be going anywhere. Fans just have to find a way to get those live numbers up, because this is a series that deserves to be seen live.
