5 reasons Chicago Med will regret losing Connor Rhodes
Chicago Med will say goodbye to Connor Rhodes at the end of this season, but here’s why the show will regret getting rid of Colin Donnell’s character.
Dr. Connor Rhodes’ days at Chicago Med are numbered. News broke on Friday that Connor will not be returning next season, as the show has decided that it doesn’t have anything left for his character.
Frankly, that’s a decision the series will live to regret. Colin Donnell has been with the series since its premiere, and he’s spent four seasons building Connor into a fan favorite. There are a number of reasons why he’s come to have a huge presence on the show, and the idea that he won’t be at the hospital when Chicago Med season 5 premieres this fall is shocking.
While no details have been revealed as to how Dr. Rhodes will ultimately hang up his scrubs (if it’s going to be in the final four episodes of this season or off-screen between seasons), what we do know for certain is that his departure will have a tremendous impact on the series. There are quite a few reasons why writing him out is something fans will question for a while.

5. He’s a risk-taker
From the moment we met him, Connor Rhodes has been taking risks. Connor was introduced in the Chicago Med series premiere, springing into action when the train he was on crashed. Fans’ first introduction to him was him literally riding into the Emergency Department trying to save a fellow passenger.
That’s set the tone for his character over these four seasons. Medical dramas are mostly about cases that go outside the box; those are the storylines that create the most drama. TV fans don’t watch them to see people just getting regular check-ups; they want to see things that are crazy and serious and complicated. Connor thrives on complicated; everything he does is complicated. He couldn’t get a cup of coffee without it being somehow difficult.

Every one of the show’s characters has to work in tricky situations, but Connor’s the one who is the best at it. It comes natural to him, whether it’s starting a new line of work or doing some kind of risky procedure. Without him there, the others will continue to have hard cases, but for them it’ll be that much harder. Connor always pushed the envelope.
