3. He’s versatile

It’s stupefying that the Chicago Med writers think that they don’t have any reason to keep Connor around, because the whole gist of his character has been that he works all over the hospital. He’s the only character who has more than one specialty—but there’s not a storyline for him?

Connor started the series as a trauma surgeon, then met Dr. David Downey (Gregg Henry) and moved into cardiothoracic surgery, and is now balancing both lines of work with the creation of the hybrid OR. Which, good luck finding someone else to run that next season. Especially since it was only funded in the first place under the condition that Connor be in charge of it.

He’s a character who is incredibly talented, not just in that he has experience in multiple fields, but in that he’s got a lot of different skills and qualities. Connor can do a traditional surgery or be that guy who has to break into his own hospital.

Because of his family history, he can also be involved in stories about the hospital’s financial situation or its desire for good press (both things that are still major issues in Chicago Med season 4). And as audiences saw in the latest episode, he can even deal with plotlines that are completely outlandish, like a fake hostage situation.

Honestly, audiences haven’t seen much that Connor can’t do. So to hear that the best creative decision is to get rid of him feels like the writers just haven’t been creative enough. What more did he need to do? He’s already done a wider variety of storylines than any of the other characters on the show have, or probably ever will.
