The truth comes out

Stella decides this would be a good time to talk to Severide, who reminds her that Foster was trying to have her back, not speak for her. And a news report confirms those aforementioned gunshots were from a double homicide. It all makes sense now: the kid saw the murders, and John is the killer back to eliminate a witness.

The entire house mobilizes as Herrmann explains to Boden (and Chicago Fire fans) exactly what really happened. Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) finds his buddy Otis waking up in the bathroom, while Stella locates the kid—but also John, who holds both of them at gunpoint. Stella shields the child with her body and calls out for help, prompting John to run out of the firehouse.

But he’s not going to get away that easily. Herrmann gives the guy a piece of his mind, before Severide tackles him into the path of a returning Ambulance 61. That allows him to knock the gun away, and everyone piles on to restrain John before Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) arrives to stuff him into the back of a car.

Ruzek also explains that they know where John’s partner is, and think they can get the two to turn on each other, so the boy—whose name is Logan Miller—won’t even need to testify. Brett goes with Ruzek to return Logan to his parents, while Stella decides that she owes Foster an apology. “Kelly’s my blindspot,” she admits, which sadly is not teasing a crossover with another NBC show.

Stella thanks Foster for having her back, and Foster promises that she’ll always do so. The two share a hug and are immediately chummy again, while Chicago Fire tells us that the injured electrician will be fine and Otis is insisting that he’s fine. Aside from having a bruised ego for not doing his due diligence. He’s angry that someone took advantage of the firehouse’s kindness, but Cruz reminds him that kindness is what brought Logan to their door, too.

Brett watches as Logan is reunited with his family at the 21st District. Casey arrives to pick her up, and so Chicago Fire can give us another Brett and Casey moment. She asks when he’s planning on going on vacation, because she wants to get a group together. And we even get a Carmen Sandiego reference, before the two quietly leave. Was that a hint, show? And was this episode one heck of a trip?
