Why isn’t Chicago Med new tonight, May 1?
Why isn’t Chicago Med new tonight, May 1? Find out why NBC isn’t showing a new Chicago Med season 4 episode this Wednesday and when the series returns.
Why isn’t Chicago Med new tonight? The One Chicago medical drama is not part of NBC‘s plans this Wednesday, and fans may not be aware of the reasons why has been pulled off the network schedule.
That’s because tonight is May 1, and that’s the pre-planned date for the Billboard Music Awards. NBC is the exclusive TV home of the Billboard Music Awards, meaning that they had to pull off all of their regular Wednesday shows in order to clear space for the awards ceremony.
So as it relates to Chicago Med, the series was impacted by a separate business deal. NBC made an agreement with Dick Clark Productions, which runs the BBMA’s, to move their project from ABC to NBC starting last year. The network presumably spent a lot of money to get the rights to the awards, and this was the date that they were planned for.
That means One Chicago’s third series has to take the 8 p.m. hour off, after just coming back off a previous two-week break! It’s unfortunate, because April only had two new episodes, so fans are already having kind of withdrawals wanting to know what happens next. So this situation is just unintentionally compounding those frustrations.
But the good news is that it’s only a one-week break, and there shouldn’t be any more in the future. The season finale is less than a month away so there isn’t any room for other preemptions or reruns! So just hang on tight and the next new episode is coming May 8.
