Why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight, May 1? Find out why NBC isn’t showing a new Chicago PD season 6 episode this Wednesday and when it will be back.

Why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight? The One Chicago cop drama is off the schedule this week, and fans may not be aware of the reason why NBC doesn’t have it in Wednesday’s primetime lineup.

While the show is rushing toward its season finale, it’s still susceptible to being put on hold for a special event—which is what NBC is doing on May 1. They’ve pushed pause on every show they normally air on Wednesdays, in order to bring TV viewers the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson (who also coaches on NBC’s singing competition The Voice, in a nifty bit of cross-promotion) the three-hour ceremony hands out trophies to some of the biggest and most popular names in music, based on their performance on the Billboard charts.

It’s certainly not what fans of the Intelligence Unit were wanting to watch tonight but it will be a strong ratings performer for NBC, which was able to acquire the rights away from ABC starting in 2018. So it’s understandable why they’d be willing to make that switch.

While One Chicago fans now know why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight, you should also know what this means for the rest of the season going forward. After all, the series just returned last week in a big way, dropping a huge plot twist after two previous weeks off.

The series is scheduled to return next Wednesday in its regular 10 p.m. time slot, and as of now it should run uninterrupted until the end of season 5 next month. There are just a few episodes left, so if you need to catch up, click the banner below to find out what you missed.
