Natalie

Natalie helped a pregnant woman who had a seizure in the Emergency Department waiting room. When the woman’s husband Caleb arrived, he broke the sad news that she also had stage four ovarian cancer. Desiree had refused any kind of treatment, fearing it would harm her baby, so now the cancer had metastasized to her brain.

But Desiree’s husband approached Natalie afterward, saying the tumor must be impacting her judgment about surgery. To placate him, Natalie agreed to call Dr. Charles. But when he showed up, she promptly lost consciousness—which Caleb saw as an opportunity to order the surgery.

That forced Charles and Natalie to go in front of Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), who said that Caleb was empowered to make Desiree’s medical decisions while she was unconscious, therefore the surgery had to happen. While Natalie was not happy about that, Caleb opened up to Charles, who assured him that he was “up for the task” of making his wife’s choices for her.

Caleb wasn’t convinced, though, and called off the surgery at the last minute. Even though it was unlikely his wife would ever wake up again, he respected her wishes and did what she wanted, and what Natalie had been wanting, too.

Maggie and Will

Maggie’s sister Denise (guest star Alexandra Grey) returned after first appearing in Chicago Med season 2, to introduce Maggie to her boyfriend Trevor. Maggie was thrilled with Trevor, until Will saw him slap Denise in the parking lot and then leave her there with a busted lip.

Making him promise not to tell Maggie, Denise lost consciousness while Will was still trying to get her to come inside. Will refused to say how the injury had happened, but Maggie figured it out in about 20 seconds and went ballistic. “Say anything and I’ll deny it,” Denise replied, while Maggie lost it.

She continued to lurk as Will treated Denise for her lip and low blood sugar, urging him to file a police report. Will replied that he didn’t think Denise was ready to leave Trevor, so that would do no good. Maggie’s response? “I’ve got an idea. Grab your coat and meet me out front.”

Maggie took Will to Trevor’s workplace, where she ordered him to stay away from Denise. Trevor replied that he was “done with that freak anyways,” which led Maggie to hit him this time. But he wouldn’t hit back when Will stepped into him.

When they returned to the hospital, Maggie told Denise what she had done, but lied about what Trevor had said about her. Not knowing the full truth Denise told her sister to “stay out of my life.” A crushed Maggie was found brooding by Will, who let her cry in his arms.
