First Responders Live, produced by Dick Wolf and touted as a real-life version of One Chicago, begins tonight. Watch a preview of the series now.

One Chicago fans can see real police, firefighters and paramedics in action during Dick Wolf‘s new series First Responders Live, which premieres tonight at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Wolf has described the series as a reality TV equivalent to Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago Fire because it follows people doing the same jobs as the One Chicago characters. But they’re on the job for real.

“It is truly the real-life version of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med,” Wolf said when he announced the show last month.

The hour-long program has camera crews following first responders around the country, while a panel of commentators in the studio discusses their actions. FOX hasn’t revealed who will be on the panel, but former ESPN and Good Morning America personality Josh Elliott is the host.

The title, however, is a bit of a misnomer; because it airs on network TV, the show is only live for fans on the East Coast. Viewers who tune in tonight in another time zone will be seeing the series on tape delay.

That’s different from A&E‘s hit series Live PD, which also follows a similar format. Live PD airs live around the country on Fridays and Saturdays—though interestingly, A&E is airing a special “bonus episode” tonight directly opposite First Responders Live.

Will TV viewers take to First Responders Live as much as they did to Live PD? How will the show’s shorter length and network TV restrictions impact the program? How interesting would it be if the producers follow anyone in Chicago?
