Chicago Fire ended season 7 with its characters trapped in a burning factory, so who’s most likely to die when season 8 premieres?

The Chicago Fire season finale raised the stakes on the NBC show yet again, with a factory fire that put characters’ lives in danger—and by characters, we mean most of Firehouse 51!

The episode “I’m Not Leaving You” culminated with the firehouse racing to one of the biggest callouts in the history of the show, where a factory was burning with at least a dozen people trapped inside. Anyone who’s been watching the show long enough could guess that someone was going to end the episode in peril.

Sure enough, a boiler inside the factory was primed to explode and take out the entire building, along with everyone still inside. That included several main characters, as just about everybody was still inside trying to evacuate people or help extinguish the blaze. And the screen faded to black just as the boiler was ready to blow…

So are fans about to see the last of one of Chicago Fire‘s heroes? Here are the three characters most likely not to make it out of the factory alive.

Emily Foster

Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) just joined Chicago Fire this season as the replacement for Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund). And sometimes, the last person—or character—in is the most likely to be kicked out.

It would be awkward if Foster was killed off, because that would mean that the show would have to look for yet another new paramedic. But she’s already established a penchant for getting into a few troublesome situations, whether it’s overstepping her bounds on a call or having a fling with a doctor who turned out to be psycho. Sacrificing her life in the line of duty would actually be pretty in character for her.

Plus, not everyone has warmed up to her yet. If it came down to choosing between Foster and a character who the fans like more, the writers are probably inclined to keep the other character.
