Christopher Herrmann

Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) is one of the two characters closest to the boiler, so if it explodes, it’s certain that something happens to him. He was last seen standing right in front of it, so at the very least, he’s going to be injured. But will he be killed?

Herrmann is one of the most interesting characters on Chicago Fire, but he’s always been more of a supporting character. He’s more expendable than, say, a Matthew Casey or a Kelly Severide. And that puts him in the proverbial danger zone if writers start looking to kill somebody off: he’s great enough that audiences will be crushed if he’s dead, but not so prominent that writing him out will completely screw up the show.

The seventh season might have been one of Herrmann’s best, with him being involuntarily made the new Lieutenant and then becoming a mentor for candidate Darren Ritter. It was like a whole next chapter for him, and that wouldn’t be the worst place to leave him. If he were killed off now, at least he’d have finally gotten some kind of recognition and he’d have left behind a huge impact through being able to mentor Ritter.

Plus, he’s already cheated death once—he was also in the fire during the season 5 finale! So maybe this is the time where his luck finally runs out? But if it does, expect the fans to riot since the show really won’t be the same without his short fuse and deadpan wit.
