Which Chicago PD characters stood out the most during the most recent season? Count down the best characters from Chicago PD season 6.

Now that Chicago PD season 6 has come to an end, it’s time to begin our yearly look back at the season that was, starting with a big question: who were the best characters this season?

The sixth season featured another season-long arc, this one involving the election of a new mayor of Chicago. It eventually morphed into another battle between the Intelligence Unit and their next adversary: Superintendent Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley). Meanwhile, a new relationship came to the forefront, and the season ended with another main character falling on their sword. It was a very turbulent season.

We’ve narrowed it down to three characters who stand out for a number of reasons—because they did something particularly impressive, because the writers finally figured them out, because the actors stole the show or some combination of the above. These are the ones who stood out from the rest over those 22 episodes.

3. Hank Voight

The longer Chicago PD goes on, the more Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) seems to be at the core of problems. Last season, he was battling a former partner to keep his unit together; this season, he was fighting the Superintendent of Police to keep his unit together. People coming for Voight has become a theme.

But anyone who’s watched this show for more than an episode knows that the show, to a certain extent, has always revolved around Voight. Chicago PD lives and dies on Voight doing whatever he deems necessary to take care of business, much of it outside the law he’s here to uphold. Almost every episode has a big Voight moment in it, and everyone else takes their cues from the tone he sets.

That was still true this season. The election storyline slowly transformed into more of a one-on-one battle between Voight and Kelton, with Intelligence in the middle. Voight had those big scenes getting into Kelton’s face, or forming an alliance with frenemy Ray Price (Wendell Pierce). And of course, Voight got the biggest scene of all: apparently murdering Kelton in the season finale. Love him or hate him, you can never stop watching him.
