1. Adam Ruzek

In the past, it’s sometimes felt like Chicago PD wasn’t sure what to do with Adam Ruzek. There was his relationship with Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), but past that, he often was just known as “the angry one.” Season 6 gave his character more definition and a lot more screen time.

Ruzek developed a romantic interest in Hailey Upton, and their relationship was featured heavily in the first half of the season. Whether or not you’re a fan of that particular pairing, it did ensure that One Chicago viewers saw a lot more of Ruzek outside the district this season.

He also played heavily in some of the biggest moments. It was Ruzek who literally fought Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) after Voight was suspended. But it was also Ruzek who helped Antonio cover up what happened to the drug dealer that he pushed through the window, which ultimately led to Ruzek being arrested in the season finale. While presumably he’ll get out early in season 7, that’s a big change for him, and not just because he’s behind bars.

When viewers first met Ruzek, he was a hot-headed kid still in training. Six seasons later, he’s now matured and become something of a junior Voight. He agrees with a lot of Voight’s philosophy, he isn’t afraid to push the limits like him, and he’s got that same never say die loyalty to his team. The season finally found a clear direction for his future: following in Voight’s footsteps, metaphorically at least. What’s next for him? Who knows, but season 6 made us want to find out.
