Chicago PD’s 3 most frustrating characters in season 6

1. Antonio Dawson

What happened to Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) in Chicago PD season 6 was an absolute head-scratcher. He started out with a tremendous amount of storyline potential, and the season ended with him being dropped from the show.

That was a huge 180, and it’s incredibly frustrating because Antonio is one of the most popular characters not only on this show, but in the entire One Chicago franchise. Almost everyone loves him and loves Jon Seda, but in one season the writers deconstructed his character—and then got rid of him.

It would have been fun to see Antonio in charge of Intelligence, and the way that he would have done things, when Voight was suspended in the season premiere. But Voight’s suspension lasted all of one episode.

Then Chicago PD decided to give Antonio a drug addiction, which showrunner Rick Eid explained was supposed to be “an interesting place to put him.” It wasn’t; most fans didn’t like the storyline at all. Yet the show kept going with it, albeit awkwardly—it could have delved into Antonio trying to recover, but had his rehab happen off-screen.

And it’s hard not to be frustrated when that’s what the show left us with. The last scene Antonio had in the season finale was him taking more pills, and that’s the last scene he’ll ever have since the writers dropped his character over a lack of storylines.

Here’s the thing, though: there wouldn’t be a lack of storylines if he’d had anything else going on this season other than a drug addiction and pushing a drug dealer out a window. Chicago PD will definitely miss Antonio, and it didn’t have to end like this.
