Our prognosis

Chicago Fire season 7 was about dealing with Casey’s emotional baggage, so now that he’s done that, the next season should be full of possibilities for him. He’s dealt with his issues, he’s not tied to anyone romantically, and he’s even got a new roommate! So the writers should take advantage and do something awesome with him.

As the second highest-ranking person at Firehouse 51, he’s a versatile character who can play in just about any plotline—either literally fighting fires or fighting the next political situation which causes trouble for the team. Hopefully he can get through season 8 without being almost killed one more time, but we’ll see how much the writers want to cut him a break (or not).

And even though Brett is now engaged, it still doesn’t feel like the whole Brett and Casey train is derailed yet. Maybe it’s because her engagement came out of nowhere, but don’t be surprised if the writers put that forward again.

Having said that, they don’t need to be in any rush to get Casey dating anyone. It’s perfectly okay to let him be single for a while, and focus on his work life, after so much time was spent in season 7 on his personal issues. They could rekindle Casey and Brett at midseason, but how about just letting Casey be Casey for a while? Or exploring his friendship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) now that they live together?

And while we’re making requests, how about giving him something positive, considering that the show burned up his home and a lot of his stuff? He deserves some good luck, and there’s nothing stopping him from getting it.
