Our prognosis

Despite his character’s growth throughout the season, Ruzek’s fate truly hangs in the balance after the season 6 finale. Will he get bail and be released? Or spend part of the season in prison? Will he get off the hook somehow? Or will he be convicted in a jury trial?

How could his possible return affect the already chaotic unit? Would he even be allowed back into Intelligence at all? With Kelton out of the picture, would a new or stand-in mayoral candidate keep the unit together? All of these questions will hopefully be answered in Chicago PD season 7.

Sadly, with the departure of Jon Seda, viewers won’t get to see the Ruzek/Dawson friendship be resolved, though the writers were kind enough to give them a heart-to-heart in the finale. While the characters did fight from time to time, it will be different not seeing the actors playing off of each other anymore. They were almost a yin and yang, and having one without the other will be an adjustment for die-hard fans. Plus, that also feeds into the assumption that Adam was leaning into Al’s shoes in trying to be Voight’s “fix-it man.”

The good news is that an open ended finale brings this character possibility. The writers have quite a bit of leeway in making a dramatic return, or an equally grandiose exit for Adam (not permanently though, so don’t worry!) Let’s just hope they focus on rebuilding Ruzek back into the rugged, yet down to earth detective we know and love, because honestly, Chicago PD wouldn’t be the same without his bubbly personality and witty one-liners.
