Chicago Med season 4 character review: Connor Rhodes
Our prognosis
A number of Chicago Med fans are still upset with the show’s decision to cut Connor, but that isn’t going to change. The producers thought the character had run his course, and they’ve moved well on without him.
His exit would have been better if he’d actually had an exit and not left things open-ended. Luckily Chicago Med has listened to viewer feedback in that respect, and has brought Colin Donnell back to film scenes in the fifth season premiere that will close off Connor’s storyline, as well as Ava’s. That’s important, since the season 4 finale didn’t explain anything except for the fact that Ava was certifiably insane.
But don’t breathe easy just yet. Just because the writers are giving Connor a conclusion, doesn’t mean that it’s going to be a good one. Hopefully it will be! But they’re only going to have that first episode to explain what happens to Connor and why he chooses to leave the hospital. Will he have the proper, well-developed sendoff he deserves? Or will this be more Ava-centric stuff that’s more drama than substance?
It’s impossible to tell until the new season starts in September. What fans know for sure is that he’s going to be a hard character to replace. Connor was the show’s most intense doctor and a big voice in the room, and Colin Donnell is a tremendous actor. He’s going to leave a very large hole in the series, on and off screen. At least he’s already got a new movie coming out.
