What happened
In some ways, this season of Chicago Fire was similar to the last as far as Boden was concerned. He spent a large portion of it once again battling senior members of the fire department, except this season it was Jerry Gorsch (recurring guest star Steven Boyer) instead of the newly minted Fire Commissioner Carl Grissom (Gary Cole).
After promoting a surprised Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) to keep one of Gorsch’s favorites from taking a position at Firehouse 51, Boden eventually got to give him a not-so-nice goodbye after Benny Severide was able to convince Grissom to transfer the other man out. That left Boden back to running the building unscathed, riding herd on his firefighters and paramedics, and keeping them out of trouble.
One episode in the season did feature a former acquaintance of Boden’s, whom he rescued from a fire. Following his instincts, the chief uncovered that her son had a huge anger management issue and had been abusing his mom. Needless to say, Boden helped put an end to that. Unfortunately it was his one huge episode all season.
