Chicago Fire season 7 character review: Sylvie Brett
What it means
Sylvie Brett experienced a lot of change in Chicago Fire season 7. She lost one partner and gained another, while also getting a new love interest, being dumped, and winding up engaged just a few months later! Both professionally and personally, everything changed—and Brett’s not someone who deals well with change.
But if you look closely at her character arc this season, it’s kind of a microcosm for how the whole show was changing. With Monica Raymund gone, they started writing toward Kara Killmer as the featured paramedic. And with Dawsey and Brettonio also definitely off the table, it was not hard to figure out that the writers would look to put Brett and Casey together romantically, solving both problems while also creating a new ship for the show.

Brett was the character most impacted by the cast change, and Kara Killmer definitely rose to the occasion. If there’s criticism to be had, it’s in the writing; pairing her with Kyle was great, but then ending it and pivoting to Casey as her love interest, and then going back to Kyle? That was all a bit jarring. It might have been better to just build toward a Casey and Brett ship initially, especially as Casey’s fling this season turned out to be a total bust.
If nothing else, this season gave a lot of screen time to Brett and had her trying a lot of new things. We’ll just have to wait and see the aftereffects of all of these new developments!
