What happened

The fourth season of Chicago Med didn’t hold many surprises, or even many big moments, for our favorite hospital administrator. Goodwin was very much a supporting character, doing more of the same stuff she’s been doing for the three seasons before.

Her biggest scene came in the back half of the season. When a young father took the ED hostage after being infuriated that the mother of his child didn’t want him in the baby’s life, Goodwin took control of the situation. She risked her own life to protect the baby, much to the shock and respect of her doctors and nurses. It was a great moment for S. Epatha Merkerson, reminding the viewers that Goodwin has skills outside of the office.

Unfortunately, they’re still not used enough. Except for that one episode, all of Sharon’s story was either her fighting with Gwen Garrett (Heather Headley) over administrative matters or chastizing the nurses and doctors about what she considered inappropriate behavior. Unlike the boss figures on the other two One Chicago shows, she doesn’t get to stretch her wings nearly enough.
