What happened

Kelly Severide took more than a few punches during Chicago Fire season 7. In the almost season-opening first One Chicago crossover, he was crushed when Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) ended up in the Emergency Department at Chicago Med, even though the two weren’t together at the time.

Later on in the season, Severide’s complicated relationship with his father came to a head when Chicago Fire decided to kill off Benny Severide (Treat Williams). Benny died off-screen, meaning that Kelly didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye; instead, he showed up at Chicago Med to find out that his father had passed less than a half-hour before.

Benny’s death brought Kelly’s mother Jennifer and half-sister Katie Nolan (Kim Delaney and Brittany Curran) back to Chicago, and was something that hung over Severide for the remainder of the season. He ended season 7 by solving an arson case that had eluded his dad, and once again getting back together with Stella. Hopefully they’ll stay together this time.
