Chicago Fire season 7 character review: Kelly Severide
Our prognosis
Kelly Severide’s path in Chicago Fire season 8 seems clear: he’s gotten back together with Stella, he’s got a new roommate, and his life appears to be pretty good. The question is if the writers will let it stay that way, or if this is just a temporary break before he regresses into the old behaviors the show keeps featuring over and over again.
The producers have been honest about the fact that they like to write Severide when he’s making poor decisions or getting into trouble. So while things look great right now, will they find another way for him to screw them up next season? Or some other drama to break his heart, although it’s hard to imagine what else they can take from him?
Fans have picked up on this, though, and they’re getting wise to it if not outright tired of it. Kelly needs to grow up and move past his various hang-ups. He’s had ample opportunity to do so going back to his supposedly profound relationship with Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan) back in season 5.
And speaking of relationships, viewers have seen Stellaride get together, break up, get together and break up twice now since that season. It’s time for them to have some stability. Anything else is going to feel like awkward deja vu at this point. So the writers have some choices to make about who Kelly Severide is going to be. Will they be willing to finally push him out of his bad habits and let him live?
