Our prognosis

Chicago Med fans have been worrying about Natalie being killed off in the season 5 premiere. But don’t freak out too much just yet. While anything is possible, there’s no indication at all that Torrey DeVitto is leaving the series. If anything, the fact that Natalie’s last scene had her coming back to meet Will is a clue toward her survival, because why tease a possible reunion if the writers were just going to kill the character?

Assuming that she makes it, let’s hope the Phillip story quickly winds itself up and the writers can stop coming up with reasons to keep Will and Natalie apart. Even if you’re not a Manstead fan, it’s to the point where the show has spent so much time on these two as a couple, it needs to just see the storyline through.

If Chicago Med really wants to take a risk, it could leave Natalie with serious injuries that she has to recover from, possibly threatening her future as a doctor. Watching her recovery would be an interesting storyline, because the doctors would be treating one of their own and trying to help her, and not just for an episode but a multiple-episode arc. For a show that wants to explore all different kinds of cases, that’d be an interesting one to tackle.

And it could even be a new storyline for Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) if Natalie needed some therapy for her trauma or was struggling in recovery. The Natalie and Charles combination was a lot of fun to watch last season, so why not continue using it?
