Chicago Med season 5 is roughly a month away, so here’s another great show that fans can watch over the rest of hiatus before Chicago Med returns.

New Chicago Med episodes are on the way, but there’s still just more than a month before the new season premieres. So what are fans to do? We’ve picked out another show that you can binge and that you’ll enjoy over the next four weeks.

Aside from Med, there was no better medical drama on TV than the CBS series Code Black, which came to an end after three seasons. The series was hard-hitting and emotional, oftentimes being a complete nail-biter, and every episode is on iTunes, YouTube and CBS All Access.

Regular readers will have seen us mention Code Black before because it has a connection to the One Chicago universe. Jeff Hephner, who played Jeff Clarke, appears in the first season of the CBS show as Dr. Ed Harbert, the hospital’s administrator. He’s in several episodes, and it’s a great role for him.

The outstanding cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden (The Newsroom), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Suits), Rob Lowe (from season 2 onward), and Luis Guzman, just to name a few. Everyone works well together, like the ensemble on Med, and there are familiar faces who have appeared in both shows.

If you’re one of the fans who thought things got too far away from the medicine in Chicago Med‘s most recent season, Code Black will appeal to you, too. It’s a show that puts the medical stories at the front, and devotes a lot of time to giving them detail and fleshing them out. There are strong cases and different types of medicine.

At the same time, there are personal storylines that emerge, and not just romances. There’s plots about adoption, about characters trying to decide their professional future, and others who have to struggle with mortality. And unlike other shows, this one rotates med students each season, so there’s always someone new.

Watch the official first look at Code Black by playing the video above, to see clips and meet some of the cast. You can find episodes on various streaming platforms and on CBS All Access, though the latter requires a subscription fee (although it offers a 7-day free trial if you want to do a week-long binge).
