The New York Undercover reboot isn’t happening at ABC, but Dick Wolf’s revival may still have a chance at another network according to new reports.

While ABC passed on the New York Undercover reboot, the Dick Wolf project could still be ordered to series elsewhere—at least that’s what TVLine is reporting.

Asked what happened to the negotiations to get the series picked up by another network, TVLine says there are “still discussions going on” about another landing spot. However, their report didn’t offer any specifics, or say which channels are interested.

So there’s really not much to go on, and it doesn’t sound like there’s been much movement since the original report in mid-June, either.

However, still going on is still better than outright dead—as was the case for former Chicago PD star Sophia Bush‘s pilot Surveillance, which went through a similar process to try and make it onto the CBS schedule but was ultimately shelved.

The original New York Undercover aired on FOX, which made it interesting when the revival ended up at ABC. But maybe that network would take a second look, now that they’re airing another Dick Wolf series in First Responders Live.

With Wolf’s next Law & Order series also currently in development limbo at NBC, there are a lot of moving parts here. His biggest new scripted series is FBI: Most Wanted, which will premiere at midseason for CBS, and even that network could be a home for New York Undercover considering the success CBS has had with the original FBI and how the network already had a strong base of crime dramas.

At this point, though, time becomes a factor. Even if the show gets picked up now, the time it would take to film a first season would mean fans wouldn’t see it until at least spring 2020—and that depends on how many episodes a network orders. It wouldn’t be a shock to see it held out for the fall 2020 season.

Another consideration is the cast options. When actors shoot a pilot, they’re normally only under contract for a certain amount of time. The longer it takes producers to find New York Undercover a new home, the more likely those options expire and the actors move on to other things.

We’ll have to keep an eye on this and see if New York Undercover comes together after all, but it’s still very much an uncertain situation.
