What should happen

When Chicago Med season 5 premieres, Daniel Charles will be a newly married man. But there’s still a few things that ought to be explored in the Charles and Caroline relationship. Their decision to wed again was quick and clearly emotionally-driven, but what happens when the honeymoon period wears off? They got divorced for a reason, so will those same issues resurface again or will they be able to work past them this time?

Also, what about Caroline’s medical situation? Will Chicago Med let her improve or will we get one more tragic ending where a loved one is killed off and our heroes have to deal with it? Hopefully not the latter, but if it’s the former there would still be some in-hospital scenes we’d have to see and go through.

The best course for Charles would be if his relationship with Caroline flourishes and they get the chance to be together again, without worrying about her future. He’ll also have to find someone new to forge a friendship with—he can’t just keep floating in and out of other people’s storylines and as much as he’s great with Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), Goodwin doesn’t have enough screen time for her to be his primary teammate.

Charles taking on a new student would feel like deja vu, in addition to making it seem more like he’s forgotten Reese. So what about playing him off one of the established doctors, like those two episodes he spent working with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto)?
