In this article, we’re profiling Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee).

Where we left off

Ethan Choi was one of the more prominent characters in Chicago Med season 4, with the caveat that most of his problems were actually someone else’s problems—namely, his wayward sister, Emily Choi (recurring guest star Arden Cho).

Though Emily claimed to have cleaned up her act since getting hospitalized at the end of the third season, she just found a new set of issues. She was involved with her sponsor Bernie (Dexter alum C.S. Lee), and soon became pregnant by him, even though he was already married with a child of his own! Emily and Bernie’s situation continued to impact Choi’s life, as Choi ended up treating his sister’s boyfriend while also getting chastized for daring to expect more from Bernie.

While April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) had followed through on her threat to leave Choi if he stood by his sister, Chicago Med made clear all season that Chexton wasn’t going anywhere. The show had Ethan’s ex Vicki Glass (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) come back after his near-death scare, solely to be used as a rebound, and he dumped her when she asked him to meet her parents.

April and Ethan were soon getting hot and heavy again, which led to a big surprise in the season 4 finale: she told him that she was late on her menstrual cycle, implying that April may be pregnant with Choi’s child.
