What will happen

The good news for Choi fans is that Chicago Med has placed a much larger emphasis on Choi and April this past season. The three first videos NBC posted to the show’s YouTube channel over the hiatus all had to do with Chexton. That’s a big indicator that both characters will continue to have more screen time in Chicago Med season 5.

That’s also an indicator that fans of April and Choi’s relationship can breathe easy. It’s clear that the writers are re-invested in their love story, so they should stay together this coming season, hopefully. (It’s possible the show pulls a Manstead and breaks them up for no reason, but since Natalie and Will have cornered the market on a relationship drama we’re cautiously optimistic that the producers won’t blow up two couples in short order.)

With Choi having so many cases that were either directly or indirectly related to his personal life last season, there’s no clear direction to push him in professionally. Do the writers continue to play up the professional conflict between him and April, with her being a nurse and him being a doctor? We’ve basically seen that, with the two almost ending up on separate shifts.

The writers will have to come up with something that Choi can do professionally that nobody else does, especially since Chicago Med as a whole is focusing on the Emergency Department. Almost all the main characters are working in the same space now, so look for Choi’s job description to possibly change a little so that he still stands out.
