What should happen

Even though she was adjusting to having a new partner on Ambulance 61, Chicago Fire season 7 really showcased Brett’s newfound confidence on the job as Paramedic in Charge. We saw her take charge of a lot of tricky situations, and making some pretty tough but successful calls on site. Hopefully Chicago Fire can continue to explore this “take charge” side of Brett this season, because she’s been in the background long enough.

Another thing that ought to happen in season 8 is for her to utilize that assertiveness in her personal endeavors. She’s on top of her game at work, so why can’t she truly have it all and have a relationship actually go right this time?

She doesn’t deserve to have a repeat “runaway bride” scenario, like the one that was a part of her backstory when she was introduced in Chicago Fire season 3. Brett’s grown up a lot since then, enough that she should now know what she wants. But does she?

One thing that will definitely be on fans’ minds as Chicago Fire season 8 premieres is what Kyle’s proposal means for Brett’s relationship with Casey. The two shared longing looks at each other in the season finale, but he never said more than “congrats” about Brett’s engagement.

Should the show decide to address the Brettsey elephant in the room, they will hopefully do it in a way that doesn’t leave more questions than answers. Since Brett’s previous arcs have been heavily focused on relationships, it would be nice to have a personal romance work in tandem with her professional life, not overshadow it.
