Chicago PD season 7 character preview: Adam Ruzek
By Kari Highman
What should happen
Ruzek’s old habits have continued to be an issue in recent Chicago PD seasons. His involvement in shady investigations, plus his spontaneous romantic entanglements, haven’t exactly painted him in the best light.
Considering the way his story left off in the season 6 finale, it’s difficult to say where exactly the writers will take him. But the age-old adage of: “once you’ve hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up” comes to mind, as Adam’s at his lowest point right now, and hopefully this means his story can be rebuilt.
Fans have only gotten to see bits and pieces of his background over the past six seasons, and within the last couple of years, we’ve barely seen anything outside of his personal or professional conflicts. This developmental lag has somewhat restricted Patrick John Flueger’s potential, because he’s playing a limited number of storylines.
Remember in the first two Chicago PD seasons, when he had more banter with Olinsky or Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins)? Or during seasons 4 and 5, when he had more grit to his character? Those are both examples of a more vibrant character. Hopefully Chicago PD season 7 will leave space for some lighter Adam Ruzek moments. He hasn’t really caught a break recently, and he certainly deserves one.
Of course, in order to have that happier side of Ruzek’s life, the writers will have to tackle his arrest. While no specific details have been released yet, fans can take comfort in the fact that Patrick John Flueger is seen in the key art for the new season, suggesting he gets out from behind bars eventually.
But how could that happen? Will Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) be involved at all? Or maybe Platt can pull some strings. She was the last one to talk to Adam before he was taken away, so perhaps she can call in one of her many favors to get him released.
